Preliminary Actuarial Exams

There are multiple well-established actuarial societies in North America, each with different requirements for memberships. The Society of Actuary, or SOA, offers 5 preliminary exams covering various areas in Mathematics and Finance. Some of these exams serve as shared requirements across multiple actuarial societies, the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, the Casualty Actuarial Society, to name a few.

In this section, we discuss some of the topics covered by the exams and offer some insights that I found useful as I underwent the exam process. The materials offered here are by no means comprehensive, but I hope that they could be valuable for your exam preparation.

Long way to go, and cheers!
